We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, and again - a massive thanks for being a part of the Punk Money community. Over the past weeks it's been amazing to get to know you better and to hone our vision to create a service which serves you and your loved ones best. It’s also been brilliant to share a little more about our own entrepreneurial journey with a ‘behind the scenes snapshot’ of the workings of a startup. October kicked off to a winning start as we received the news that Punk Money made it through to The Pitch 2020 final which will be happening next month. A massive thanks to all those who voted for us and shared their feedback, you ROCK!
We’re now in with a chance of securing a money-can’t-buy package of mentoring and support which we have no doubt would amp up the Punk Money mission and crank things up to the next level. We were thrilled to come out winners of the Fintech category in the semi-finals and can’t wait to meet the other finalists next month.
We caught up with Punk Money founders Ewan and Nic to get the lowdown on their experience of The Pitch to share with you.
How did it feel to be part of The Pitch 2020?
It felt great to be a part of something as big as The Pitch which has propelled so many innovative and game-changing startups in the U.K since it began. We knew the competition would be strong and this year saw 800 startups apply, so we knew we had to go all in and bring our A-Game. To make it through to the final is an amazing opportunity to share the Punk Money mission with like minded fellow entrepreneurs who are passionate about developing purposeful brands. It’s also been so valuable to share our vision and mission with people who have become experts in their fields and to receive their insights and feedback.
What have you enjoyed most about being part of The Pitch 2020?
It’s been brilliant to be a part of a movement which celebrates fresh ideas and to travel through the process with people who have a similar mindset. People who have big dreams and visions and are completely dedicated to sharing them with the world. It’s been a very inspiring process and we’ve grown massively. With the rounds not taking place in person this year there was an added opportunity for growth and getting creative with how we could engage others through a screen. We had fun making our pitch as captivating as possible and we really wanted our passion to translate. Stay tuned for what we have in-store for the final!
How has The Pitch challenged you both?
Entering any type of competition there’s the element of stepping out of the comfort zone and really putting yourself out there, which feels vulnerable in many ways. When you put out something which means so much to you of course you are open to being judged and that can feel a little daunting. With entering a competition like The Pitch to be judged is the whole point so you get over that hurdle fast! Putting together an engaging pitch which really conveys how passionate we both are about the Punk Money mission has required many takes! I guess that’s the beauty of the creative process, to start with something in the rough and polish it over time and with plenty of effort and dedication. Within the rounds each business only has two minutes to pitch their business so honing our elevator pitch has been essential.
What would it mean to you to win The Pitch 2020?
It would be an incredible honour to receive further support and mentoring from inspiring entrepreneurs who have so much wisdom to share. We have already learnt so much and developed many different skills so to imagine how Punk Money could prosper even more is an exciting thing to contemplate. We have massive respect for all of the startups in the competition and it’s been amazing to network during these restricted times. The Pitch offers startups like ours a chance of being seen, heard and perhaps even celebrated. I guess entrepreneurs think differently to others, seeing the potential in things and having the courage to turn a vision into a reality that can make a massively positive impact in the world. To win The Pitch 2020 would be massive for us and more importantly massive for our community who believe in building a better future, together.
So there we have it, all that’s left now is to tune into The Pitch 2020 final kicking off at 1pm on 11th November and the winner will be announced live! We would LOVE you to join us from the comfort of your own home, tickets are free and the event will be taking place on Zoom. Your presence and positive vibes means the world to us and you are at the heart of everything Punk Money stands for.
